So What Is A Will? - I Am Not Planning On Dying

By Stacy Taylor Written on:

Very few people do! Accidents happen every day of the week. If you have life assurance to protect your family in the event of your sudden death, why not make a will as well? Think of it as protecting your wealth from the taxman whilst ensuring that your love one receive what is their due.

The burden that a sudden illness or accident places on the family will be eased by a properly drawn up will specifying what you wish to happen to your effects.

There also seems to be a superstitious notion that making a will is tempting fate. This led to the Law Society producing a pamphlet entitled 'Making a will won't kill you'.

It has to be said that making a will while you are fit and healthy is far more sensible than leaving it until you are dying.

It is far more distressing for the testator, the relatives and, believe it or not, the attending solicitor, if you wait until you are seriously ill in a hospital ward or hospice before deciding to make a will.

The parsimonious amongst you might also note that it costs less for you to attend the solicitor's office than for him to visit you.
